What Should My Onset Date of Disability Be?

Establishing the correct onset date of disability is critical and it may effect the period for which a claimant is entitled to benefits.  So, how do you decide when your disability started?  For most people, your onset date is when you stopped working on a full-time basis because of your physical and/or mental health impairment.  However, this does not hold true for everyone.  If you had to reduce your hours at work because of your impairment(s) your onset date maybe in the past.  In some cases, it may be possible to infer an onset date that occurred some time prior to the date of the first medical examination.

If you or someone you know is thinking of filing for Social Security disability benefits and might benefit from talking to an attorney, please call the Law Offices of Sharon Meyers at 816-787-0942 and get help on correctly establishing the onset date so that you can recover the most that your are entitled.
