Sharon enjoys spending time with her husband and their sons and grandchildren.
Attorney Betsy Spratlin Ballard received her Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2005. She began working at the Law Offices of Sharon J. Meyers in November 2004 as a law clerk and became an associate following admittance to The Missouri Bar in 2005. She serves as a board member for the Young Friends of the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired, and is actively involved with the Mid-America Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Chrystal L. Gates joined the Law Offices of Sharon J. Meyers in the fall of 2001. Chris grew up on a farm in Northwest Iowa and moved to Kansas City with her husband and daughters in 1985. Prior to joining the Law Offices of Sharon J. Meyers, Chris spent nearly 15 years as the senior executive assistant for Division I with the National Collegiate Athletics Administration. Chris left the NCAA after that organization moved to Indianapolis in 1999.
As the office manager of the Law Offices of Sharon J. Meyers, Chris leads our team in providing the best quality of services to our clients in a respectful and efficient manner. Over the years, Chris has developed excellent relationships with administrators and clerks at the various Social Security offices in the Kansas City area, as well as at a number of different hearing offices [Offices of Hearings Operations (OHO)] throughout the country.
When not working, Chris and her husband enjoy spending time with their two daughters and grandchildren, as well as traveling to see their extended families.
Laura Barton graduated from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, with a bachelor’s degree in the administration of justice. She also earned a master’s degree in public administration from Park University.
Laura joined the Law Offices of Sharon J. Meyers after a 30-year career in government service. Her past experience has included working with all levels of government, community-based organizations, not-for-profit organizations and private businesses. She also has years of experience with the insurance industry.
Laura completes Social Security Disability initial applications for our clients and presents each new case to the Social Security Administration with the most comprehensive collection of facts possible. Due, in large part, to Laura’s excellent efforts, the firm enjoys a significant number of approved claims at the initial level.
In addition, Laura monitors the progression of claims through the Social Security system, assists clients in timely submission of accurate information to Social Security, and keeps clients informed as to the status of their claim for disability.
Debby Bird went to the University of Missouri, Kansas City and Avila, graduating with a bachelor’s and master’s in education.
After a number of years as a special-education teacher, Debby joined the Law Offices of Sharon J. Meyers in 2001. She has an excellent understanding of the Social Security Administration’s policies, as well as the inner workings of the agency. Debby can navigate the Social Security system with the ease few have mastered.
Debby assists with the receipt and submission all medical records that come to the firm. Debby reviews medical records and recognizes when a void of evidentiary information exists in a client’s medical documentation.
Debby assists new and existing clients by providing feedback in regard to the current status of their case, advising clients on what they can expect next and providing options for clients looking for assistance.
Jennie Perry, Legal Assistant, joined us in 2009. A lifelong resident of Kansas City, Jennie received her bachelor of arts degree from Loyola University in Chicago in 2006. Prior to working at the Law Offices of Sharon J. Meyers, Jennie worked at an insurance company handling medical claims and coverage issues.
Jennie helps prepare our clients’ files for hearings before administrative law judges by ordering medical records and gathering client medical treatment information. She assists in ordering all medical records necessary to prove a claim. In addition, she works with the medical professionals involved in the treatment of clients and secures the professional opinions of the treating physicians in support of a client’s claim for disability. Jennie plays a vital role in the factual building of each case and makes certain that the Social Security Administration receives all the medical evidence available to support each claim.
Her passion and dedication to our clients is evident in the care that she takes to ensure the necessary information is gathered in the most efficient way in each case. Jennie enjoys working with clients and treats everyone with kindness and respect.
